Libby and her horse Zorrin who inspired her PEMF journey.

EPTequine: Who We Are

EPTequine started because of the sheer frustration of the founder to find a solution for her horse.

After a custom-built saddle caused damage to her horse Zorrin’s back she embarked on a long frustrating journey to rehabilitate him. Libby employed numerous professionals to help and while they could all identify him as being sore-backed they couldn’t offer anything that seemed to help in his rehab and was often told, “He’s not that sore, I‘ve seen horses that are worse, he’ll be ok". She found this unacceptable.

Meanwhile, old friends of hers started their one PEMF journey back in her home state of SA and watching the updates on social media intrigued her enough to go down the rabbit hole of PEMF research.

Libby was utterly shocked at the TROVE of scientifically backed studies supporting PEMF and couldn’t believe that it wasn’t everywhere. However, it is very expensive equipment so to make it happen, she had to make it a business.

This revelation was just the tip of the iceberg. When the equipment was purchased and imported into Australia from the USA Libby was frustrated by the lack of anatomical training. It seems PEMF relies heavily on the equipment showing the user where the horse has issues but Libby was unhappy with what seemed a backwards approach of the tail wagging the dog and undertook anatomical and bodywork training so she could better understand muscular patterns and make informed choices about why and how to better tailor sessions to her clients.

EPTequine started as a side gig to help her own horse but quickly grew to become the premier PEMF provider for Sydney Racehorses years later has helped other PEMF practitioners get going and understand the importance and provided training of a science-based anatomical approach instead of relying on the limited training offered in Australia.

The Science Behind PEMF

There is no shortage of scientific studies exalting PEMF, take a look at a few that EPTequine finds captivating for their implications for use on our equine friends. Care has been taken to only consider properly conducted scientific studies that were not funded by PEMF manufacturers

PEMF, a basic explanation.

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, a non-invasive treatment where electromagnetic fields are used to improve health. It involves generating electromagnetic fields at varying frequencies and intensities to stimulate cells and tissues in the body.

The idea behind PEMF therapy is rooted in the fact that electromagnetic fields can influence biological processes at the cellular level. These fields can penetrate the body and interact with cells, potentially promoting various effects such as:

  1. Cellular Repair and Regeneration: PEMF may aid in stimulating cellular repair mechanisms, potentially helping in tissue healing and regeneration.

  2. Pain Relief: It's believed to alleviate pain by influencing nerve cells and reducing inflammation, contributing to pain management in conditions like arthritis or injuries.

  3. Improved Circulation: PEMF may assist in enhancing blood flow and circulation, potentially aiding in delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues.

  4. Enhanced Bone Healing: Some research suggests that PEMF may aid in bone healing and could be beneficial in treating certain bone-related conditions.

  5. Relaxation of Muscles: It might help relax muscles by reducing muscle tension and spasms.

PEMF therapy devices can vary in their frequencies, intensities, and application methods. They might be used in clinical settings, rehabilitation centers, or even available for home use. It's important to note that while ongoing research and some evidence is supporting its effectiveness in certain conditions, the full scope of its benefits and long-term effects is still being explored.
